Event on 2013-10-27 19:00:00
Looking for a REAL Halloween Experience? Mingle with the Spirits of Farnam Manor! The Spirits love company! Ohio Living History Society interpreters, in period dress, will portray people from the Manor's past as you tour the mysterious halls by lantern light. Hear the legends and lore! Tours are about 45 minutes in duration. Your experience begins in the carriage house, built in 1840. Warm your bones by the bonfire behind the carriage house. The Trail to the Unknown winds through the land that was once the gardens of the Farnam Estate. Put on your hiking boots and prepare for adventure! The creatures come out at night! Experience the wooded moonlit trail and the crisp autumn air! The Trail to the Unknown is just like the path of life. You will have to make some choices along the way. It takes some longer than others to find their way. It will most likely take about a half hour. Nothing evil. No fake blood and gore. The Spirits are just people. Appeals to all ages. Some rough terraine. Not recommended for the feeble or faint of heart. You never know what will happen! The land has long been significant. John Farnam served in the Revolutionary War as a special agent to George Washington. In 1812, he acquired prime land in the Western Reserve for his service and brought his family here from Connecticut. Farnam Manor was built in 1834 by his son, Everett. He grew the estate to 3200 acres. Everett Farnam said before he died that he would come back as a raven so he could soar over his property. According to legend, the spirit of his little daughter, Emily, lingers since she drowned in 1858 at age 7. During the roaring '20's the Manor was known as a speakeasy. Hear tell, when the ladies got pregnant they came here to see the doctors. It is said that on a full moon you can hear the cry of babies. On the new moon you can hear the murmurs of their mothers. From 1948-1972, it was the Danish Smorgasbord Restaurant. Strange happenings have been reported by patrons and employees. After the restaurant closed, the old house was rented to college students.Stories are told of the Spirits shenanigans during those days. Although the Farnam Estate has seen good and bad times, it has always been a place where people go to have a good time. You are invited to pay tribute to the Spirits and witness the energy!
